Vonage V-Phone
Even though the use of VoIP via truck stop hotspots is a hit and miss proposition it might be well worth your while to take a look at the new V-Phone. It comes pre-loaded with Vonage Talk software and, with a subscription to Vonage service, you can make calls from any broadband Internet-connected PC that has an available USB port.
To use the V-Phone you simply insert it into the USB port on your laptop (you could also use an Internet kiosk or Internet Cafe PC provided you have access to a USB port) , plug the Stereo Earpiece Microphone into the side, and you're ready to make and receive calls. When you remove the drive the phone and any other information stored on it go with you.
If you're a current Vonage customer you can use your existing Vonage number but, if that's your home phone, you'll probably want to sign up for a separate account. The V-Phone can be ordered from Vonage.com, at a cost of $39.99, and a subscription to a Vonage monthly calling plan will run you between $14.99 and $34.99 a month.
